UAE launches VAT refund system for online purchases for tourists

In coordination with Planet operator, the UAE's FTA launches the world's first VAT refund system for e-commerce retail purchases for tourists. The system will be applicable to the purchases made during the stay in the country. 

To claim the VAT refund, visitors need to take the following steps:

- submit the application before the purchases are shipped. The eligible purchases can only be made via e-commerce platforms authorised by the FTA;
- provide documents and personal information to confirm eligibility for the refund. 
 

Tourists will be refunded upon their departure from the country. 

The new system is an addition to the digital VAT refund system for tourists' purchases made in physical shops, which was launched 2 years ago.
