Sick leave regulations in the ADGM differ from general UAE regulations. ADGM Employment Regulations 2024 details the number of days an employee can take for a sick leave, how these days are compensated, what documents must be provided and in what cases the employer has the right to terminate employment.

1. General rules

Norm Rules
Right to a sick leaveAfter a probation period

2. Sick leave compensation

- 100% of the Employee's Daily Wage - for the first 10 Work Days of Sick Leave

- 50% of the Employee's Daily Wage - for the next 20 Work Days of Sick Leave

- The following 30 work days are unpaid

Example

Daily wage is AED 500

Sick leave for 60 days

Payment for 10 days: 500 x 10 = AED 5,000

Payment for the next 20 days: (500 ÷ 50%) x 20 = 250 x 20 = AED 5,000

Remaining 30 days: unpaid

In total, the employee will receive AED 10,000 for 60 days of sick leave.

Note: adjustments may be made depending on contractual terms; therefore, when calculating specific cases, one shall refer to the provisions of the specific contract.

Important: after the expiration of 60 days, further absence is considered unpaid and may be grounds for dismissal. ...
