On July 1, 2024, the Ruler of Sharjah issued a decree establishing the Sharjah Communication Technologies Free Zone (COMTECH) in the city of Kalba. The new free zone will be managed by the Sharjah Communication Technologies Authority (SCTA).
The main activities of the new free zone will cover:
- telecommunications sector,
- advanced technologies,
- communication technologies,
- all types of data centers.
All companies, institutions, natural persons and employees of COMTECH Free Zone are exempt from taxes for a period of 50 years with the possibility of extension. This includes all taxes that are in force in the UAE and the Sharjah Emirate, including VAT and corporate tax, but excluding the consumption duties.
The objectives of establishing COMTECH are the following:
- to strengthen the Emirate's position in the field of communication technologies;
- to develop scientific and practical activities in the field of communication technologies;
