Step 1: Trademark availability check 

- This step is not mandatory. However, it is useful to ensure that the trademark (logo, word, name, slogan) is not previously registered by third parties. According to Article 3 of Federal Decree-Law No. 36 of 2021 on Trademarks, a trademark must not coincide with previously registered trademarks.

- The fee is AED 350.

 

Step 2: Preparation of necessary documents 

Legislative basis: Article 4 of Cabinet Decision № 57 of 2022 on the Executive Regulations of Federal Decree-Law № 36 of 2021 on Trademarks

- Identity documents (e.g., company trade license, trademark owner's passport, copy of Emirates ID)

- Copy of power of attorney, certified and translated into Arabic - if the application is submitted by a registered agent

- Certified translation into Arabic with pronunciation indicated - if the trademark contains one or more words in a foreign language

- Musical notation and audio file in mp3 format - if the trademark is a sound mark

- Written description of the chemical composition - if the trademark is a scent.
