Question:

When is an employer obligated to provide accommodation for their employees?

Answer:

In the UAE, an employer is obligated to provide accommodation for employees under Article 4 of Ministerial Decision No. 44/2022 Concerning Occupational Health and Safety and Labour Accommodation.

Obligation applies when:

- The employer has 50 or more workers, and

- Each worker earns AED 1,500 or less per month

Additionally, if the employment contract (or collective agreement) explicitly mentions that accommodation is included, the employer is legally bound to provide it.
