We, Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Executive Council,
After perusal of:
- Dubai Law No. 3 of 2003 Establishing the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai,
Do hereby issue this Regulation.
This Regulation will be cited as "Regulation No. 9 of 2008 Concerning the Change of Names of Natural Persons in the Emirate of Dubai".
The following words will have the meaning indicated opposite each of them unless the context implies otherwise:
UAE: The United Arab Emirates.
Emirate: The Emirate of Dubai.
Court: The Sharia Court in Dubai.
Application: A request for a change of the first name of a natural person.
Certificate: A document issued by the Court approving the Application.
No amendment, change, or correction of the first name of a natural person may be made without a Certificate issued by the Court. This does not apply to the correction of any material error made at the time of registration, in which case, the correction will be made by the competent entity responsible for that error.
