Court imposes AED 10,000 fine for insulting a man on WhatsApp

The man was sued by a woman who accused him of insulting messages on WhatsApp. The woman demanded AED 51,000 in damages.

The Al Ain Court of First Instance found the man guilty of causing moral harm and ordered him to pay a fine of AED 10,000. In addition to this, the man must cover court costs and fees. 

To avoid fines and other legal consequences, social media users need to comply with the provisions of Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combating Rumours and Cybercrimes. 

For example, recording a video in a public place without a permission will constitute a violation of privacy. It will also be a violation to post photos of confidential documents on online platforms.
