International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, as amended, states that every seafarer holding a certificate issued under the provisions of the Convention, who is serving at sea, shall also hold a valid medical certificate issued in accordance with the provisions of regulation 1/9 and of section A-1/9 of the STCW Code.
