Reference to the Ministerial Decision 102 of 2017, regarding the mandatory installation and operation requirements of the Automatic Identification System (AIS), and for the sake of protecting the environment and marine resources, and to enhance the search and rescue operations, and with immediate effect:

All foreign flag commercial ships regardless of their size and type, including wooden vessels and vessels less than 300 GT, which is not holding a navigational license issued by the FTA, are required to have onboard an Automatic Identification System (AIS), installed and kept on the operational mode, while calling UAE ports or sailing/anchoring in UAE Territorial Water or Exclusive Economic Zone.
