Within the regulatory framework of the UAE Federal Maritime Administration (FMA), responsible for regulating the maritime transport sector and preserving the marine environment in UAE waters, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure has issued Ministerial Decision No. 36 of 2023, for regulating the discharge of gray water from Cruise ships, defined as below:
Gray water: The water that is being discharged from the sinks, washing machines, bathtubs, and dishwashers and does not include sewage.
Cruise ships: Ships certified to carry more than 100 persons and equipped with overnight accommodations.
All Cruise ships as defined above are required to abide with the Ministerial Decision as detailed below:
