From January 1, 2025, basic health insurance for private sector employees and domestic staff will be available in the Emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al-Khaimah and Fujairah. The insurance is already compulsory in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
According to Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022 on Domestic Workers (as amended on 29.07.2024), employers must provide health insurance to domestic workers or bear the costs related to their health care. Health insurance will help employers save money on medical expenses.
The basic insurance package will cost from AED 320 per year. The insurance programme includes benefits for dependent members of the employee's family and covers those aged between 1 year and 64 years.
7 hospitals, 46 clinics and health centres and 45 pharmacies will be connected to the basic insurance programme.
The new insurance package can be purchased through the Dubai Care Network and via other products from accredited insurance companies, such as the Insurance Pool website and smart app.
