Federal Law No. 8 of 2025 On the protection of new plant varieties

The President of the United Arab Emirates,

We are Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

• having reviewed the Constitution،
• and Federal Decree-Law No. (1) of 1972, concerning the remit of Ministries and the powers of Ministers, as amended,
• and Federal Decree-Law No. (17) of 2009 on the protection of new plant varieties,
• Based on the proposal put forward by the Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, and following the approval of The Cabinet and the Federal National Council, and the ratification by the Federal Supreme Council,

We have enacted the following Act:

Article (1)

Definitions

For the purposes of this Act, the following words and expressions shall have the meanings set out opposite each of them, unless the context otherwise requires:

State: United Arab Emirates.

Ministry: Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment.

Minister: Minister for Climate Change and the Environment.

Variety: any group of plants falling within a single botanical classification at the lowest recognised taxonomic rank, irrespective of whether the conditions for the grant of a breeder’s right are fully met, Which can be defined by charac...
