Choosing the right oil and filter for your vehicle:
- Select the type of oil (standard or synthetic) and the oil viscosity in accordance with the recommendations in the manual.
- Selecting the appropriate filter based on its manufacture and design.
- There are different grades of oil and filters, and the best types of oil are those that leave behind minimal residue.
Prevention of spills and leaks:
- Place the oil drain pan beneath the drain plug. Position the plug approximately 6 inches from the centre of the pan. This will prevent the initial flow of fluid.
Draining the oil:
- Warning: Do not drain the oil immediately after driving, as the engine oil may be very hot; it is best to wait at least half an hour before handling the oil.
- To drain the oil, locate the oil plug, which will be a threaded plug situated at the bottom of the engine oil sump. The oil sump is shaped like a pan and is located beneath the engine block.
- Try to find a socket or spanner that fits the threaded bolt, and try to avoid adjustable spanners, as these often strip the bolt head. To drain th...
