Preventative measures and guidelines for steel and aluminium plant management to be implemented in workshops:
- Working alone in the workshops is not permitted. At least two persons must be present when the machinery is started up.
- Work that involves overexertion is prohibited; this includes fatigue, stress or rushing whilst working.
- Work must not be undertaken without exercising caution and care. There are limits that must not be exceeded.
- Safety footwear must be worn inside the laboratory to prevent any foot injuries caused by sharp machinery and cutting tools, or by the heat associated with them; it is therefore advisable to wear footwear made of thick material.
- You should protect your eyes by wearing safety glasses when working or cleaning.
- Remove any metal articles or parts left lying next to running machinery to prevent them from becoming trapped inside, such as rings, necklaces, hair or clothing.
- Take care to keep body parts such as your hands away from sharp tools to avoid any cuts or lacerations.
