The Registration Authority of Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) has published new Employment Regulations 2024. These Regulations aim to improve employment standards within the ADGM jurisdiction.

Key provisions of the new Regulations include:

  • A revised definition of 'employee' to enable companies to hire remote workers;
  • Clarified principles regarding the rights of workers, including part-time workers;
  • Clarified requirements for work permits and visas.

The following rules are enacted for remote employees:

  • A remote employee may reside either in the UAE or outside the country.
  • The employment contract must state that the employee works remotely.
  • Employers are required to provide the necessary technical equipment for remote employees to work remotely.
  • Companies are responsible for obtaining and paying the cost of work permits and resident visas for all employees, including the remote ones.

The new Regulations will come into force on April 1, 2025 and will replace the Regulations of 2019. The full text of the Employment Regulations 2024 is publicly available.
